Last night I finally had the opportunity to get to attempt to put together the first page of my scrapbook. After doing a bit of research and watching multiple videos on YouTube, I figured that I should follow the advice of my fellow scrapbookers and purchase a few scrapbooking kits that will help me gather and get ideas for cool color patterns and embellishments to start off. I purchased three Mambi Kits (pictured above) at my local Hobby Lobby. These kits, although a bit pricy for what is inside, are much cheaper than buying the embellishments and papers separate. In addition, I purchased a few more embellishments and stickers at Hobby Lobby and Target.
To begin my first page, I scrolled through my Pinterest board that I set up for scrapbooking (view pins a few blog posts back) for some inspiration. I decided to try using a "layering" technique that required multiple sheets of colored paper. In addition, I used my "rounding corner" punch tool to make my picture that I selected have round corners. All in all, the process became a little messy!

After selecting a yellow / gold background and green and blue boarders for my pictures, I decided to try a technique where I would take a picture and slice it into vertical rectangles, and then re-paste the rectangles back together with a small space between them to make the picture a little more visually interesting. The other picture that I decided to use on the page was a picture of my boyfriend and I. I chose to keep this picture in one piece and make it pop by adding a green and blue background before posting it to the page. Once I attached the pictures to my page, I added a few embellishments from my kit to the page and added the words "boat ride" to the side because the pictures that I chose for this particular page were from a boat tour that I took with my boyfriend while we were on vacation in Miami.
